About this event
From policy strategist to congressional candidate:
What it takes to make the leap.
This webinar features Dylan Hewitt, a seventh-generation Upstate New Yorker whose career has spanned policy, public service and national-level advising before stepping into his current congressional campaign. Raised in South Glens Falls, Hewitt’s perspective is grounded in a family legacy shaped by public education, social work and a deep belief in opportunity. His professional path includes roles in local government, a national economic nonprofit and service as a trade official at the White House, where he worked on issues affecting rural communities, economic competitiveness and international engagement.
The session will focus on how professionals in policy and communication can translate their experience into a candidacy. Hewitt will share how skills such as stakeholder engagement, message development, policy fluency and coalition-building evolve when moving from advising decision-makers to becoming one. The conversation will explore the required shift in mindset, including how to establish personal credibility, connect with constituents and navigate the operational realities of running a campaign.
Designed for communication professionals, policy advisors and those curious about public leadership, this webinar offers a practical look at what it takes to make the leap. Rather than focusing on political positions, the discussion centers on transferable skills, lessons learned and the role of communication in building trust and clarity as a candidate. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how a foundation in policy and strategy can inform an effective and authentic approach to public service.
This webinar is free for PRSA Oregon members and $20 for nonmembers.
