For Brad Hilliard, APR, mentorship is about more than sharing professional knowledge. It is about helping people recognize their potential, build confidence and find opportunities to succeed.
That commitment has shaped Hilliard's work throughout his career and his service to PRSA Oregon. This year, the chapter is recognizing that dedication with the Olga M. Haley Mentorship Award.
The award reflects PRSA Oregon’s commitment to supporting members at every stage of their careers and lives. Hilliard exemplifies that spirit through his work with emerging communications professionals, students, colleagues and his community.
Hilliard has served as director of PRSA Oregon’s mentoring program, where he worked with 15 individuals over the course of a year. He also has held a number of chapter leadership roles, including serving as chapter president in 2020.
Those who have worked with Hilliard describe a mentor who leads with encouragement and thoughtful guidance. Rather than simply offering advice, he seeks out the perspectives of emerging professionals, encourages innovative thinking and creates opportunities for them to take on meaningful communications work.
His commitment to developing the next generation of communicators extends into the classroom. Through his work with Corban University, Hilliard creates opportunities for students to connect their classroom learning with professional experience. He regularly attends student presentations, offers thoughtful feedback and shares practical insights about the expectations of today’s workplace.
For Hilliard, that hands-on experience is an important part of preparing students for successful careers—and his mentorship gives them the confidence to put what they have learned into practice.
His commitment to mentorship also extends beyond the communications profession. Hilliard and his wife are dedicated members of the foster parent community and loving foster parents, reflecting the same spirit of service and care that colleagues see in his professional life.
Through his leadership, teaching and community service, Hilliard has made mentorship a consistent part of how he contributes to the people and communities around him.
Congratulations to Brad Hilliard, APR, on receiving PRSA Oregon’s Olga M. Haley Mentorship Award.
