Clean Water Services’ Public Affairs Program is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist – Content and Media. This position plans, designs and executes content strategy and media relations for the District’s branding and strategic communications efforts.

Essential Functions:

– Coordinate social media strategy and execution in alignment with the District’s Strategic Communications Plan and Brand Plan including content development, production and distribution, customer experience tracking, and data analysis to effectively tailor content to reach a variety of audience personas
– Apply storytelling and copywriting skills to content creation for various mediums and audiences including social media, websites, employee and customer newsletters, videos, utility billing communication and long-form storytelling
– Serve as a credible media representative for the District on a range of issues, with a variety of diverse communities. Provide written and in-person responses for general media inquiries and during emergency incidents
– Create, implement and track the editorial calendar and regularly measure to apply data-driven insights to content strategies
– Interpret technical information into easily understood messages
– Assist with presentations to community, neighborhood and business groups regarding District programs
– Serve as a resource for staff, customers and stakeholders, including resolving and/or referring difficult and sensitive concerns and fulfilling requests for informational materials
– Integrate equity into employee and external stakeholder communications, with an ever-evolving knowledge of best practices
– Bring new ideas and solutions to the District by continuously seeking out new trends and best practices in marketing, communications and digital media
– Communicate regularly with staff to bridge two-way conversations with stakeholders, and gather information for subject-matter research, media response and campaign execution
– Work closely with creative services team who will serve as technical advisors for videography, photography, graphic and UX/UI design

– Social media management, editorial strategy, media relations, public speaking, copywriting and proofreading, and general print and digital layout and design

– Serving as a social media specialist, copywriter and media spokesperson
– Social media strategy, audience voice and content production and distribution
– Writing and speaking relevantly, creatively, concisely and accurately about complex subjects to inform, reassure or motivate
– Proofreading and editing
– Power and approach of good design to tell a story
– Digital tools including email newsletter programs, Google Analytics, social media channels and corresponding social dashboards and data analytic tools

– Produce materials using established templates and timelines
– Work occasional weeknight and weekend shifts as required
– Understand, interpret and explain pertinent policies, procedures, laws and regulations
– Understand and work in alignment with established strategic communication and brand plans
– Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of District and other government officials, employees, community groups, vendors and the general public
– Collaborate, listen and appreciate diverse perspectives in a team environment, present ideas both orally and in writing to increase understanding among audiences who have varying levels of comprehension, or opposition or indifference to the information being presented, organize workload and prioritize tasks to meet changing priorities and deadlines
