DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Communications and Marketing team provides a wide range of services including internal and external communications, advertising, media relations, graphic design, digital strategy, print production and more to St. Charles Health System.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Specialist writes and edits content for St. Charles Health System internal communications channels including serving as the lead for three weekly email newsletters. This position will support the St. Charles Strategic Plan by promoting initiatives through internal communications, special project communications, various printed publications, digital and social media platforms, reports and presentations. The person in this position will also support the Communications and Marketing team through other tasks as needed. This position does not directly supervise any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Serves as coordinator of weekly internal email blast to all caregivers, leaders and medical staff members and weekly hot sheet for leaders with health system updates and information. Tracks metrics to determine value of newsletter content and drive improvements where needed.

Works with the Communications and Marketing team to plan and produce content for a variety of channels including social media, website, video, intranet, print materials and more.

Meets regularly with caregivers and leaders throughout the health system to proactively determine communication needs.

Works with internal clients on communication needs and ensures all stakeholders review and approve written content before distribution.

Works with the Communications and Marketing Production Coordinator on all requests for collateral, posters, graphic elements and project design.
Leverages social media channels to engage internal audience.

Provides communications project management support for projects directly tied to the organization’s strategic goals

Writes, edits and provides content for the St. Charles intranet site, CaregiverNet. Ensures timely, current and accurate updates.

Supports the Public Information Officer with news media requests and pitches as needed.

Utilizes St. Charles project management software, In Motion, to move projects from request/concept through to completion, including review of the weekly email newsletters.

Takes photos and supports video production when needed.

Cultivates strong relationships with the St. Charles team and stakeholders.

Alerts St. Charles Director of Communications and Marketing as well as other leaders of concerns or emerging issues for troubleshooting/service recovery.

Contributes to the creative, fun and collaborative Communications and Marketing team dynamic with an open-minded, positive presence and a willingness to learn.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
Preferred: Strong knowledge of AP Style.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required: Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all SCHS worksites.
Preferred: N/A

EXPERIENCE

Required: 3 – 5 years experience in related field or position. Excellent computer skills, including Office 365, PowerPoint and Excel.

Preferred: Understanding of the health care industry, issues and trends. Management experience with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn a plus.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
